| My trip to the Netherlands (aka Holland) |
On the 1st of November 2013 I went on a trip to the Netherlands. I woke up at 7.00 in the morning to help my mum and dad pack our bags. Slowly but surely we began to tick all the boxes on our list. In a gust of wind my sister woke up just as she always does in a grumpy mood. I packed my bag of course; I did not hesitate to pack my Comics and DVDs. I quickly checked on Google to see our journey to Holland. The estimated time to reach the destination was approximately 6 hours. I had eaten my breakfast and I was ready to go! Everyone was in the car at 9.30am sharp. I had my DVD ready. First to watch was Harry Potter. I had a long journey ahead of me. We set for Dover to catch the ferry. 1 hour later we were in a long cue waiting to board the ferry. Finally we were on the ship. I felt happy because my mum let me have a Lucozade. We waited for a long time then we all got bored so we went to explore the ferry. We found a phone charger, a shop and a game room. My dad let me play one game. Then we went back to the home room and waited till the ferry docked. We went back to the car and continued our journey. After 4 hours we finally reached our destination. We walked into the house and it was massive. Alex and I looked at each other then started playing “it” around the house. Then we noticed a tablet computer and we started to fight over it. After a short play on the tablet we went to bed. The next day we ran down the stairs and I hogged the tablet then… mum said to us that we have to dress up before we play with the gadgets. One look and we ran upstairs. We had a breakfast and then we went to Amsterdam by car. We saw some old green windmills at the local museum; they were really cool inside. We went to the top of the windmill and Alex was a bit scared but she overcame her fear.
Dad took some pictures which I’m publishing here.
Then we went to the clog store. To see how clogs are made and we saw some old clogs, there was even a clog painted to look like shoes they were thousands of clogs that were for sale. There was even a town where farmers used to live but it is now a museum. We parked our car and changed our mode of transport to train. We bought some tickets then we were in the train. We saw the Ajax Amsterdam football stadium called Amsterdam Arena. While in Amsterdam we walked around to see the sights, we then went to KFC because we were all very hungry after…we quickly went on a small boat to see the sights of Amsterdam from the River Amstel. My dad took some nice pictures and we were off! We saw some open houses (old houses that are opened to public). I also learnt something very interesting about the buildings! They all have hooks on the gable for lifting up furniture into the building. This was because the stairways were too narrow to carry the furniture up. We saw a café as soon as we got off we went to the café, but unfortunately it was closed. We then decided to go back home. After we played on the tablet I took the tablet so Alex went to get the other one. We finally went to bed I was knackered. The next day we woke up, we had planned to go to the playground next to auntie’s house but it was a cold day. So we went to a national reservation area nearby which has a small centre with telescopes and information of all the species and wildlife that lived there, which you don’t see often in the UK. We then watched a film that told us the history of the land. I discovered that the town we were in (Almere) did not exist 50 years ago and it is all reclaimed land. Even the lush land where the reservation area was used to be a construction site before then they turned it in to a lush green land. Then they invested in some reindeer and cattle then after time more spices moved in again my dad made some more pictures. Then we went the same way home. And do you know what we did next? We had a Xbox challenge between Alex and I, and of course I won. Then (my favorite part of the day) we went to a restaurant which was a pick and put on your plate (buffet). Then we I have to say unluckily we went home and went to bed. Then early in the morning we had to pack our bags then we went to visit another uncle after that we went back to Calais to board the ferry to England. Then we went home.
